Lindsay Lohan is planning to Appeal Jail Sentence

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Lindsay Lohan has reportedly split with lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley just as the actress is planning to appeal her 90-day jail sentence handed down earlier this week in Los Angeles Superior Court.

TMZ reported that Chapman Holley resigned as Lohan’s lawyer, effective Thursday. The actress has reportedly since hired Tiffany Feder-Cohen, who will appeal Lohan’s sentence. Feder-Cohen was admitted to the State Bar last year.

On a Twitter account belonging to Feder-Cohen, she Tweeted in December she was “Starting a new practice, deep breath, almost ready,” adding, “here I go!”

A person who answered the phone at Feder-Cohen’s office could not confirm that the lawyer was representing Lohan, and told Access Hollywood that they were just taking messages.

An assistant for Chapman Holley told Access Hollywood that a statement was forthcoming, while a rep for Los Angeles Superior Court was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Access.

Another star who landed in jail previously, Paris Hilton, similary announced plans to appeal her sentence back in 2007, when a judge found her in violation of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. She, too, switched lawyers, hiring Richard Hutton, after being given the 45-day jail sentence in 2007. A spokesperson for the courts said in May 2007, however, that Hilton had abandoned her appeal.

Hilton’s jail sentence came as a result of a probation violation. She was on 36 months probation for a prior DUI arrest when she was stopped twice by officers who discovered she was driving on a suspended license. The second stop landed her in court, where an LA Superior Court Judge sentenced her to the 45-day jail stint

=) Although extravagant attires (including a nun-like transparent getup with two pieces of white tape on her chest), fake blood and sparks-shooting bras were still front and center, Gaga also made it a priority to show her gratitude by dedicating songs to her father, her fans, her native New York City and her friends.

"My name is Lady Gaga, and I used to sit right over there, way far in the back and way up top," she said, pointing toward the top left side of the venue. "I saw Madonna , Cher , the Rolling Stones, Elton John, KISS. I used to stare at this side of the room, and I used to think, 'I'm gonna be up there,'" she declared, gazing at her own elaborate stage. "So, every second you watch me on this stage, you remember I was sitting where you are," Gaga said as the sold-out room roared in response.

=) Later in the show, Gaga dedicated a soaring performance of "Speechless" to her father, who was in the audience -- one of the highlights of the evening. "I remember when he would carry my piano down the four flights of our walk-up when I had shows," Gaga recalled about her father's support during the early part of her career. "Of all the drunk men in my life, Dad, you're my favorite," she half-jokingly said as she dragged her high-heeled boots on the piano.

=) Gaga's two-hour long concert was the first of three Monster Ball shows taking place this week in New York -- she also played Wednesday and was due to play Friday. During her show, the star, her supporting cast and friend Posh -- whom Gaga said once shared an apartment with her in Manhattan's Lower East Side -- enacted a trip around all over her beloved city, from Brooklyn to LES and Central Park by car, train and down a glittery road to make their way to the Monster Ball. "The monster ball will set you free!" she shouted. "Little monsters reign supreme!"

"Without New York, I would not exist," Gaga declared. "But I also would not exist without my friends. They were there with me through alcohol, bad boyfriends, girlfriends," she added before passionately performing her emotional new song "You and I" in dedication to them.

=) Gaga also sang "Just Dance" early in the night and toward the end hit "Alejandro," "Telephone" and "Paparazzi," as the octopus-like Fame Monster taunted her.

Cheryl Cole was admitted to intensive care after malaria

The star was taken to the emergency unit at the Cromwell Hospital in west London. She was then transferred to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in the centre of the capital, the paper added, for specialist care. Cole, who has been supporting Black Eyed Peas on tour, is reported to have collapsed with suspected gastroenteritis during a photoshoot for her album on Saturday afternoon, when she was initially diagnosed with exhaustion.

"Ms. Lohan and I are extremely disappointed in the sentence handed down by Judge Revel. We believe that the penalty is far harsher than what others would have received under similar circumstances. The reality is that Ms. Lohan, like most defendants, had to balance work commitments with court requirements. To be punished so severely for doing so, particularly in light of the fact that she substantially complied with each of her probationary conditions, is harsh and unfair. That said, Ms. Lohan is prepared to serve her jail time and to comply with the Court's orders."

Chapman also defended Lohan's nails, which were painted with "F*ck You."

The weird and wonderful world of Prince

Prince, the singer who on Tuesday announced that the internet is 'completely over', has always found bizarre ways to stand out from the crowd.

The musician, 52, made his comments as he released his latest album 20Ten on CD, refusing to allow any digital sales because companies such as iTunes will not pay advance fees for them.

Proclaiming the internet "outdated" is the latest in a series of unorthodox episodes that have characterised the flamboyant showman's career.

Here is a list of some of the most bizarre moments in the life of Prince.

Changing his name to a symbol

There's only one place to start this list. While many performers appear under stage aliases, Prince went several giant-sized steps further in 1993 by changing his name to an unpronounceable symbol (see above) following a dispute with Warner Brothers over the ownership of his work.

The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, as his fans were forced to call him, had already used the character for the title of his twelfth album, claiming it was a combination of the male and female symbols (♂ and ♀).

Fans and music journalists across the world breathed a sigh of relief in 2000 when the artist reverted to his old title, claiming that the negative associations with his real name had been forgotten.

Bikini bottoms and a trench coat

Every young artist dreams of their 'big shot' – their first exposure in front of a mass audience that has the power to either catapult them into the mainstream or crush their dreams.

For Prince this moment arguably came in 1981 when, after enjoying cult success with his early albums, he was given the chance to open a series of shows for the Rolling Stones.

Most artists, when faced with an audience of 100,000 frenzied rock fans, might make an effort to blend in. Prince turned out wearing a trench coat and bikini briefs. He was pelted with rubbish.

The Black Album
In the late 1980s, an album that was set for release – The Black Album – was sensationally pulled at the last minute because Prince became convinced that it was evil.

The album, 500,000 copies of which had already been produced with a plain black cover, was replaced shortly afterwards by Lovesexy, which reached number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The Black Album was eventually released in 1994 following the limited success of his 'love symbol' album.

Slave

A dispute between Prince and Warner Brothers over the releasing of his work resulted in a legal battle over the album The Gold Experience in 1993.

While legal matters were ongoing, the artist appeared in public with the word 'slave' written on his cheek – taken to be a reference to Warner Brothers' attempts to assert ownership of his work.

Heartbeat

The album Emancipation was released in 1996 following Prince's marriage to Mayte Garcia, with many of the songs dedicated to the couple's relationship and the child they were expecting.

On the song Sex in the Summer, Prince used a recording of his unborn baby's heartbeat as part of the percussion track. The baby was later born with a skull disease, and died soon after birth.

Lindsay Lohan's courtroom manicure sparks debate

Less than 24 hours after actress Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail for violating probation on two DUIs, her fingernails have stolen the limelight.
The 24-year-old actress sported a colourful manicure in court that included obscene messages on each of her middle fingers. Close-up photos taken by a courtroom photographer revealed the tiny letters, which made worldwide news on entertainment websites.

Speculation suggested that the messages were intended for the judge, the paparazzi or her estranged father.
Lohan let her middle-finger messages speak for themselves until explaining via Twitter.

"It had nothing to do w/court," Lohan wrote. "It's an airbrush design from a stencil."

Ed McPherson, Lohan's civil lawyer, said he did not notice the message painted on her fingernails and does not think she meant to disrespect the court.
"Absolutely not," he said.He said Lohan's tearful statement in court was sincere.
"I think she thinks that she's come a long way," he said. "Obviously she's very upset about this."
Lohan must wear an alcohol-monitoring anklet until she surrenders for jail later this month. After completing her time behind bars, she has two days to report to a probation officer to begin formal probation. She is also required to spend 90 days in an inpatient substance-abuse program.

It is a history, Larry King Divorce

TMZ has learned Larry King and Shawn Southwick have dropped their divorce.Both sides filed petitions to dismiss their divorce papers yesterday. They seem to do everything in tandem. Both Shawn and Larry filed their divorce papers within an hour of each other on April 14.

The judge needs to sign the papers to dismiss the divorce petitions, but that's just a formality.

The couple reconciled on a trial basis, shortly after they filed their divorce papers.

Pop icon Michael Jackson has been dead exactly one year. But the controversy that surrounded his life isn't over.

On the eve of the first anniversary of his death, Latoya Jackson loudly declared that her brother was murdered. Why? Because he had grown too rich, powerful, and posed a threat, she said. Latoya didn't say who or whom exactly he posed the threat too. But then she didn't have to. The charge that Jackson was the victim of foul play has been bandied about by Jackson family members, legions of fans, and hotly discussed and debated on blogs and websites since that fateful day one year ago.

The murder conspiracy theories are just the tip of the iceberg of ongoing Jackson controversies. On the eve of the first anniversary of his death, news reports were filled with rampant speculation and guesswork about Jackson's financial woes, squabbles between his attorneys and former attorneys over who represents who and what in divvying up Jackson's estate, and reports of more finger-pointing by Joe Jackson about Jackson's death. This is no surprise. Jackson made news even when he didn't do anything during his life.

Jackson's infamous child molestation trial in 2005 for a time was the centerpiece of much of the chatter back and forth about his lifestyle. His eventual acquittal on all charges didn't quiet the questions. Debate still rages over whether Jackson was an innocent victim of greedy, media hungry parents, or of his own eccentricities.

Then there was Jackson's on again, off again, quirky, ambivalent relationship with African-Americans and his seemingly confused racial identity. For many blacks, Jackson was little more than a Casper-the-ghost-looking bleached skin, nose job, eye shade, straight hair and gyrating hips. On the eve of the first anniversary of his death, Latoya Jackson loudly declared that her brother was murdered. Why? Because he had grown too rich, powerful, and posed a threat, she said. Latoya didn't say who or whom exactly he posed the threat too. But then she didn't have to. The charge that Jackson was the victim of foul play has been bandied about by Jackson family members, legions of fans, and hotly discussed and debated on blogs and websites since that fateful day one year ago.

The murder conspiracy theories are just the tip of the iceberg of ongoing Jackson controversies. On the eve of the first anniversary of his death, news reports were filled with rampant speculation and guesswork about Jackson's financial woes, squabbles between his attorneys and former attorneys over who represents who and what in divvying up Jackson's estate, and reports of more finger-pointing by Joe Jackson about Jackson's death. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal (Bengali: মুহম্মদ জাফর ইকবাল) (born December 23, 1952) is a very popular Bangladeshi writer of children’s books and science-fiction and also a well-known columnist. He is a professor of Computer Science at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, though originally educated as a physicist.

Early life

Muhammed Zafar Iqbal was born on 23 December 1952 in Sylhet. His father, Foyzur Rahman Ahmed was a police officer and because of his father's occupation, he traveled to various parts of the country as a child. Zafar Iqbal was inspired by his father for writing at an early life and wrote his first science fiction at the age of seven. On 5 May 1971 Pakistan Army captured his father and killed him in front of a river. Iqbal had to dig his father’s grave to convince his mother about her husband's death. First publication of Zafar Iqbal’s science fiction came at the famous weekly "Bichitra" as he wrote a short story titled "Kopotronik Bhalobasha" (Kopotronik Love). One of the readers claimed the story as a plagiarism to make Iqbal annoyed and he wrote a series of stories under the title as a result. He passed SSC from Bogra Zilla School in 1968 and HSC in 1970 from Dhaka College. He got admitted to Dhaka University at the department of Physics in 1972. In 1976, Zafar Iqbal went to University of Washington in the USA to obtain his Ph. D. There he again met his Dhaka University classmate Yasmeen Haque, and a year later they were married. His elder brother Humayun Ahmed is a living legend, and considered one of the most popular writers of Bengali Language. Younger brother Ahsan Habib is the editor of satirical magazine, 'Unmad'(Mad) and a cartoonist as well as popular writer.

Life and career
Iqbal studied Physics at the University of Dhaka and graduated in 1975. He obtained his PhD from the University of Washington in 1982. He completed his post-doctoral training at the California Institute of Technology from 1983 to 1988. He joined Bell Communications Research (Bellcore), a separate corporation from the Bell Labs, which is now known as Telcordia Technologies, in 1988 and worked there as a Research Scientist until 1994. Since 1994 he is a professor and the Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
